Dhiraj Barman
Assistant Professor

About-
I am a Social and Development Geographer with research interests spanning political economy, urban studies, social inequality, and development in India and the wider Global South. My research engages with themes of land dispossession, peri-urban transformation, urban informality, geographies of work, and health inequality, with a particular focus on the socio-political processes that produce and transform geographic spaces in the contemporary world.
At present, my work is situated within critical development geography and urban studies, exploring medium-sized cities, urban gentrification, neoliberal urbanism, and critical spatial theories. In addition to research, I teach courses on Urban Geography, Social and Welfare Geography, and Geographical Thought. I am also committed to mentoring students and contributing to interdisciplinary debates on society, space, and development.
