Derozio Memorial Debate

Every year, one of Presidency's most enduring traditions is celebrated through the DerozioMemorial Debate. This year, the legatees of Henry Louis Vivian Derozio join hands with Google, a name that has revolutionized the online experience for an entire age, to present the biggest multi-format college debate in eastern India. This collaboration happens to be a special one, as never before has Google collaborated at this scale with any institution in India for a single event. This is one of the greatest achievements not only of the Presidency University Public Speaking Society, but also of the institution as a whole, in recent times.

The stakes have risen, with prizes worth Rs. 1,00,000 waiting to be won. The format has undergone diversification to put the contestants' debating mettle to as rigorous a test as possible. Apart from the conventional form of debating, there is also a modified American parliamentary debate, a turncoat debate as well as the university's home-grown format, the Derozian Parley. The event will also benefit from the erudition of this year’s judges, Prof. Prashanta Ray, Prof. Rajat Kanta Ray and Ms. Sagarika Ghosh. Registrations from key educational institutions across the country continue to pour in. Scheduled for the 2nd to the 4th of February, 2013, the third edition of the Derozio Memorial Debate promises to be an affair to remember.
