Sancharee Basak
Assistant Professor
About-
I am an academic of Statistics, currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics of this university.
My research interest is primarily centred on, but not restricted to, Statistical Inference. The topics that I would very much prefer to research upon are - Classical Parametric Inference, Minimum Distance Inference, robust inference, Bayesian Inference and Functional Data Analysis.
With respect to my teaching interests, I am interested in teaching the following topics to undergraduate students- Probability Theory, Statistical Inference, Descriptive Statistics, Categorical Data Analysis, Large Sample Theory, Statistical Quality Control and Real Analysis. With respect to postgraduate students, I am interested in teaching the following broad topics - Statistical Inference, Probability Theory, Linear Models and Multivariate Analysis.
Qualifications+
- Ph.D. in Statistics (2022) from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
- M.Sc. in Statistics (2015) from University of Calcutta.
- B.Sc. (Hons.) in Statistics (2013) from Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata.
Biography+
I completed my graduation in Statistics from Lady Brabourne College and my postgraduation in Statistics from University of Calcutta. I submitted a thesis during my postgraduation degree bearing the title "Partial sequential two sample test procedure for simultaneous inference on both location and scale parameters'". My doctoral work at Indian Statistical Institute (Kolkata) was on the topic of Robust Statistics and under the supervision of Dr. Ayanendranath Basu of Interdisciplinary Statistical Research Unit.
Just before attaining my doctoral degree, I started my teaching stint as an Assistant Professor of Statistics and have completed about 4.5 years in total at St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata and Sister Nivedita University, after which I joined Presidency University.
Research / Administrative Experience+
Till date, I have carried out most of my academic research in the domains of Likelihood-based Inference, Minimum Distance Inference, Density-based Divergences and their uses in Robust Inference and Bayesian Inference. Accordingly, I have published research papers in reputed international journals related to Statistics.
Teaching / Other Experience+
