During my MBA I carried out dissertation on the topic “The role of Academic Leaders in Institution Building-A study on selected Universities in West Bengal”

Academic leadership is something special as it is to create intellectuals and in turn it is a foundation for the “knowledge-society”. There is a shift in academic leadership paradigm in creating and innovating specialized skills and knowledge to the global society as it abundantly requires. Leadership considerably differs from management according to the principles, process and execution of duties and responsibilities. Management is a system developed by the modern experts and the leadership is good old concept having wider scope in education management. In Indian education, most of the traditional entrepreneurs have been engaged as educationists with usual care and conventional type of management, which is highly mismatching to the new environment.

Educational leadership has a critical role in the transformation of society, and for change to happen, effective leaders are key.

Skills based values, feelings, fears and hopes can generate a trusting basis for critical problem solution. These communicative vocabularies can initiate an open discourse between universities, government and business organization leading to an increasing local, national and international forum creating a room for interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary discourse. These challenges necessitate to restructure the system of higher education in order to achieve the holistic goal of social cohesion and social inclusion rather than exclusion and mere competition.
