About-
Dr. George Biswas received his B.Sc in Geology from Asutosh College (under the University of Calcutta) and M.Sc in Applied Geology from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shipbur. He did his Ph.D. in Geology (Physical Science) from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). The research has been carried out at the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad. He studies hydrogeology, hydrogeophysics, and water resource management. Currently, as an assistant professor in this department, he is actively engaged in research in groundwater hydrology. He has delivered invited lectures on national and international platforms. He has received several awards and prizes from academic and non-academic fields.

Biography+
Dr. George Biswas is a geoscientist and academician, currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology at Presidency University, Kolkata. With a background in hydrogeology, hydrogeophysics, and water resource management, Dr. Biswas has significantly contributed to Earth sciences, particularly in understanding complex basaltic aquifer systems and applying multi-disciplinary approaches to water sustainability and resource mapping.
Dr. Biswas completed his Ph.D. in Geology (Physical Sciences) from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), conducted at the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from the University of Calcutta, followed by an M.Sc. in Applied Geology from IIEST Shibpur. Before his current academic position, Dr. Biswas held research fellowships at CSIR-NGRI, including as a CSIR-JRF and SRF.
At Presidency University, he has been actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching since 2018, and he regularly mentors research projects, student workshops, and international collaborations.
Dr. Biswas has been invited globally to deliver lectures, keynote addresses, and capacity-building sessions. His talks span groundwater resource management, geophysical modelling, and interdisciplinary research strategies. He has also served as a trainer for international research workshops, including those organised by the Dhaka University Research Society (DURS), Bangladesh.
Dr. Biswas is an accomplished researcher with numerous publications in reputed international journals. He has also contributed book chapters published by Springer, Elsevier, and Wiley. Dr. Biswas is also credited as a co-innovator in a patented IoT-based greenhouse monitoring device to improve agricultural sustainability through real-time environmental sensing and cloud integration.
He is a recipient of several prestigious awards and recognitions:
· Best Ph.D. Thesis Award (2023) from AcSIR
· Outstanding research Presentation for Dr. S. K. Ghosh Memorial Young Scientist Award (2025) by the Indian Meteorological Society, Kolkata Chapter
· Ramai Pandit Award (2024) for excellence in Earth Sciences
· Outstanding Project Presentation Award in the AIMILGWR-2025 CEC course at NIT Raipur
· Arijit Guha Memorial Award for Community Engagement and Social Welfare (2016)
He has been honoured with Life Fellowship from the Indian Social Science Academy (FISSA). He is a life member of numerous scientific organisations, including the Geological Society of India, Indian Geophysical Union, IAHS, ISCA, AGGS, MMSI, and the International Water Association.
In addition to his academic and research responsibilities, Dr. Biswas actively contributes to institutional development. He holds key administrative roles as Convener of the Central Sports Board and Faculty Placement Coordinator of the Department of Geology at Presidency University. His efforts are pivotal in promoting student welfare, career development, and inter-departmental coordination.

Teaching / Other Experience+
I have been teaching for the last seven years in both PG & UG Honours in Geology. I teach Geophysics, Engineering Geology, and Mineralogy at UG and PG levels. These contain both theory and laboratory-based coursework. I was an international trainer for the Science Research Workshop Module by the Dhaka University Research Society (DURS), Dhaka, Bangladesh, from September 3, 2022, to November 3, 2022.

1. A new design for a greenhouse monitoring IOT- DEVICE has been granted. The claimed portion of the design of the GREENHOUSE MONITORING IOT- DEVICE consists of parameters such as temperature, humidity, soil moisture, light intensity, and CO2 levels. A central microcontroller processes this data, which is displayed on a digital interface and transmitted to a cloud platform for real-time remote monitoring.
