Souvik Mitra
Assistant Professor
About-
I am a planetary geologist. My approach to understand the extra-terrestrial planets and their past by studying surface mineralogy of the planets using remote sensing and their possible geological activity particularly physical and chemical weathering processes are yielded up by investigating potential analogue sites on Earth. Recently, I have been looking at the processes of the aqueous environment on Mars and Moon reported in many scientific journals like Squyres et al, Fairén et al., Arvidson et al, Ehlmann et al. Kerschmann et al., whose works provide unequivocal identification of OH/H2O and comprehensive ideas on initial aqueous environment on Mars and Moon.

Biography+
My doctoral work at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur was on Basalt weathering and Jarosite formation in Kachchh, India as a terrestrial analogue to Mars. After completion of the degree I joined BIT Sindri, Dhanbad, India in 2018 as an assistant professor in the department of Geology. I taught Mineralogy, Petrology, Engineering Geology and Indian Stratigraphy at that time. After 7 months of teaching there I joined Presidency University, Kolkata.
