Md. Monirul Islam

Associate Professor and Head of the Department

I wrote my doctoral dissertation on Eastern connections of the British Romantic poets. My monograph Oriental Wells: The Early Romantic Poets and Their Eastern Muse, published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2020, was chiselled out of my doctoral work. I am interested in exploring the cross-cultural encounters between Europe and South Asia, especially in the context of early nineteenth century. In addition to this, a key area of my research concerns the Posthuman and the Anthropocene. In several articles published in journals and books, I have explored different dimensions of posthumanist thought from a 'postcolonial location'. My article ‘Posthumanism: Through the Postcolonial Lens’ (2016) has been widely cited by scholars across the globe. Currently, I am co-editing a book, Posthumanism and India: A Critical Cartography. Other areas of my interest include travel and travel writing, film studies and ‘minor literatures’.
