Biography+
After my masters in JNU with regional development as my specialization, I did my M.Phil. in urbanisation, and was appointed in erstwhile Presidency College in 2006. Then I joined in Presidency University in 2014. I completed my PhD in the fields of electoral Geography in 2017.
Research / Administrative Experience+
I did my M.Phil on urban infrastructure. I also attended many seminars and conferences where I presented papers on languages, railway infrastructure, politics, ethnicity and urbanisation. My PhD was on electoral geography of West Bengal. Presently I'm working on political geography, urban geography as well as in the fields of social geography.
I have reasonable administrative experience. Ranging from duties of various committees in administration (like admission, examination coordinator, election commissioner, board of studies etc.)
Teaching / Other Experience+
For the past eighteen years I'm teaching undergraduate and post graduate students. Presently I teach Cartography, Regional Planning and Development and Political Geography in undergraduate level and courses like Urbanization, Social Geography, Political Economy and Geopolitics in post graduate level. I also teach quantitative techniques and statistics in both undergraduate as well as post graduate levels.
Previously I also used to teach Geotectonics, Philosophy of Geography, Soil Geography, Population Geography and Climatology in UG and PG levels.
Post Graduate Supervision+
I'm interested to supervise students on regional and urban planning as well as in issues of development studies. I'm also very much interested to supervise in the fields of social and political geography as well as geopolitics and political economy.
Currently I have three PhD students, all of them are registered in Presidency University:
1. Chandrasekhar Sarkar (Title: “Implementation of Multidimensional Poverty Reduction Programmes in Rural Areas of North 24 Parganas and Puruliya Districts.)
2. Soumyajit Halder (Title: Ethnicizing Politics and Politicising Ethnicity: A Study of Matua and Rajbangsi Community in West Bengal)
3. Suteertha Samanta (Title: Electoral Dynamics of Rural Areas of South-Western West Bengal Between 2019 and 2024)
