Saumyadip Samui
Assistant Professor and Coordinator, School of Astrophysics

About-
I am theoretical Astrophysicist. I study the formation and evolution of galaxies in very early history of the universe. A vast amount of observations are available to us regarding galaxies that were formed very early in time. In most of my research work, I intend to understand those observations. In particular, I am interested in number count of galaxies and its time evolution, the star formation history of the universe, effect of star formation on the subsequent evolution of galaxies such as reionization, outflows etc.
Qualifications+
B. Sc Physics (Jadavpur University, 2001)
M. Sc Physics (IIT Kanpur, 2003)
PhD Astrophysics (University of Pune, 2009)
Biography+
I joined Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune on 2003 to do my PhD. I worked under the supervision of Prof. Kandaswamy Subramanian and Prof. Raghunathan Srianand on "the Physics of structure formation and intergalactic medium". After obtaining my doctoral degree I moved to SISSA, Italy where I spent almost two years as postdoctoral fellow. There I worked on infra-red photometric images of high redshift galaxies obtained from HERSCHEL satellite. From there, I went to University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, SA and worked there for two more years as postdoctoral fellow. I joined Presidency University in August, 2013.
