About-
I did my B.Sc (Chem Hons, 2001) and M.Sc. in Chemistry(2003) from Calcutta University. By that time I had qualified CSIR NET (Dec 2002) and GATE (Feb 2003, AIR 6th, 99.8 percentile). Then I have joined Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (2003) under the guidance of Prof. Samita Basu and completed my Ph.D on photochemistry by Dec 2008. Initially I had joined as lecturer in Jadavpur University in Dec 2008 but later then I have joined Presidency College in 2009 as an Asst. Professor in Chemistry. Finally I had joined Presidency University on 2013.
In Presidency College (and now Presidency University) I teach bio-inorganic chemistry and crystal field theory in MSc classes.I generally guide students in PG 2 practical classes. In BSc classes we have to take different sections at different times.
Here we have to undertake MSc projects and I generally guide these students with photophysical studies of different types of molecules using fluorescence with a special interest in medium dependence and some biophysical works (till now). M.Sc Students with good aptitude for research can publish papers during their MSc project too.
Qualifications+
Ph.D. in Photochemistry (2003-2009): Research carried out in Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, INDIA; registered from, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Thesis title ‘INTERACTIONS OF QUINONES WITH DNA BASES: A LASER FLASH PHOTOLYSIS AND MAGNETIC FIELD EFFECT STUDY’. Advisor: Prof. Samita Basu, Senior Professor at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Chemical Sciences Division, Kolkata.
Master of Science in Chemistry (Inorganic Special) (2001-2003), 1st Class (Rank 2nd, recipient of Sadhan Basu memorial award), Calcutta University.

Biography+
Natural polyphenols have long been used for the prevention and treatment of several disorders due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, antineoplastic, and immune modulatory effects discussed in the literature, which have led to their recognition as potential nutraceuticals. They are reported to be effective against viruses,Bacteria,Fungus, Cancerous cells, Obesity, Radiation induced damage (our findings) and Ulcers.
Side by side newer researches are emerging to check their efficacy in cosmetic industry and its gastroprotective efficacy.One of the problems regarding the use of polyphenolic compounds is their low bioavailability. Different types of formulations have been designed for the improvement of bioavailability of these compounds, nanoformulations, chemical modicifications, micellar encapsulations being the most notable ones. Today, several nanoformulations are designed for delivery of polyphenolic compounds, including nanosuspensions, solid lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, gold nanoparticles, and polymeric nanoparticles, which have resulted in better intracellular concentration of polyphenols, slow and sustained release of the drugs, and improvement of proapoptotic activity against tumor cells. In a nutshell these can optimize the bioefficacy of these natural drugs.
I intend to modify the administration mode of flavonoids and check the change in efficacy of these nutraceuticals.
The possibilities are:
Encapsulation in micelles (synthetic polymer micelles or protein micelles) or liposomes,
Pegylation or preparation of Nanocomposites (with chitosan, for eg) or Nanoparticulate pharmaceutical drug delivery systems
Success of these work will give a knowledge of using dietary flavonoids as potential medicines in several aspects. This will prevent additional hazards from newly synthesized molecules.
After flavonoid modification or encapsulation, I perform some biological assays to ascertain their biogical efficacy.:

I have completed one DST-SERB, two UGC and one WBDST major research projects
Two students have completed their PhD thesis under my supervision. My first scholar Priti Sengupta is now pursuing her post doc in Poland. Two more are pursuing their PhD at present.
