Wednesday, 14 March 2018
Department of History, Presidency University, Kolkata
Paper Proposals on Archaeology, Heritage and Religion in South Asia are invited from advanced postgraduate students & research scholars for a one-day national conference at the Department of History, Presidency University, Kolkata. While each of these fields are discrete entities in their own right, they are still interwoven in significant ways. Archaeology has become a highly sophisticated discipline in recent years catering to the knowledge of the past. We are interested in its various subfields, like prehistory, proto-history, excavation and exploration programmes, art and architecture, epigraphy, numismatics, besides preservation and conservation of cultural heritage, ranging from ancient to pre-modern period. Papers on a wide range of themes related to religion would also be of interest to us, from the intersection of religions, ethics, and politics and governance through religious experience and spirituality. Paper proposals on history of micro-minorities (like Jews, Parsis, Bahais, etc.), religious nationalism, state-minority relations, interfaith and cross-cultural relations, and auto-ethnographic literature are also welcome.
Registration is free of charge. Participants are expected to make their arrangements for accommodation.
