Inviting Exceptional Students for the LSEF-UMASS Post Graduate Scholarships 2019
Lakshmipat Singhania Education Foundation (LSEF) and University
of Massachusetts, Amherst are jointly offering a prestigious
scholarships in India. Launching in 2019,
LSEF-UMass Scholarships (2019) for Post-Graduate Studies
is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity offered to
selected students for pursuing post-graduate education leading
to Masters Degree from The University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The programme offers scholarships to pursue an MS in Applied
Economics, MS in Data Analytics, or a Master's in Public Policy
at UMass Amherst, making a top-30 public university of the US
accessible to meritorious students in India.
The Scholarships, each of which is worth Rs. 20 lakhs, are
funded by The University of Massachusetts Amherst and
Lakshmipat Singhania Educational Foundation and covers 50% of
the tuition and academic fees for the two-year degree
programme. Students who have completed (or will complete in
2019) 3 years of undergraduate degree program from an
accredited University in India are eligible to apply. The
Foundation especially encourages students with exceptional
merit, who may have limited means to pursue education abroad,
to apply. The selection will be based on applicants’ academic
record, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose and
personal interview with a panel from U Mass, Amherst and LSEF.
The Lakshmipat Singhania Education Foundation (LSEF) is a
philanthropic initiative of the 125-year-old JK Organisation.
With over 38,000 students being educated in its various
schools, University and higher education institutions in India,
LSEF has played a major role in nation-building for over 45
years now.
Founded in 1863, UMass Amherst is ranked 26th out of
over 700 public universities in the US according to US News
& World Report 2019, and among the top 125 global
universities in Arts, Humanities, Engineering & Technology

distinguished by the excellence and breadth of its programmes.
The first cohort of the programme will spend their first year
in India, taught by world-class faculty from both India and the
US. Renowned academicians like Dr. Subhashis Gangopadhyay,
former Professor of Economics with the Indian Statistical
Institute and an alumnus of Cornell University, Dr. Krishna
Ladha, Senior Professor of Economics with experience in
teaching in various prestigious institutions in India and
abroad, including Washington University in St. Louis,
University of Chicago, New York University and IIM Kozhikode,
and Dr. Alasdair Roberts, Professor at School of Public Policy,
UMass and an alumnus of Harvard University among many others
will be teaching the students. On successful completion, in the
second year they will study at University of Massachusetts'
flagship campus at Amherst. The degree in Data Analytics as
well as in Applied Economics at UMass have received the STEM
classification and come with the attendant additional OPT
benefit.
