Capacity Building Workshop on Big data and Nonparametric Econometrics Economics Department, Presidency University
Economics Department is organizing a three-day workshop on ‘ Big data and Nonparametric Econometrics’ during 13, 14 & 16 October 2017. The key people in the workshop will be Prof. Abhiman Das and Dr. Dhiman Bhadra of of IIM Ahmedabad, Dr. Bhuvanesh Pareek of IIM Indore and Prof. Pulak Ghosh, Infosys Foundation Chair Professor in Economics in our Department.
Theme of the workshop
Big data refers to the ever-increasing volume, velocity, variety, variability and complexity in the collected data. Apart from the excitement of getting new insights because of big data, in today’s world, big data brings lots of challenges. Big Data does not mean just analyzing social media data. Big Data should be more than just Twitter analytics because there are lots of other “digital breadcrumbs” being created, which are increasingly becoming more accessible.
Big Data analytic fundamentally changes the scientific method, as new econometrics techniques allow better-informed management decisions. Researchers need to fundamentally re-think research methods and theories for dealing with Big Data phenomena. There are plenty of key challenges big data brings to the econometrician
In this workshop, we will explore these new areas of big data econometrics with special emphasis on nonparametric econometrics which has a huge role to play.
